Most van hires at Euro Hire Drive are for a single day, and most of the questions we get are the same three: which size do I need, what do I have to bring, and how far ahead should I book. This guide answers all three for anyone hiring from our depot at 5A Grange Road, Houstoun Industrial Estate, Livingston.
Which size fits the job
Small van (Peugeot Partner). A washing machine, a fridge freezer, a dozen boxes, or a day’s tools. Fits in a normal parking space and drives like a car. The right choice for a single room, a student move, or a big purchase from the Livingston retail parks.
SWB panel van (Ford Transit Custom). Around six cubic metres, three seats, a side door. A one-bedroom flat in one run if you pack well, or a two-bed in two. The most hired van we have, because it does almost everything.
LWB panel van (Volkswagen Crafter, Ford Transit). Eleven to fourteen cubic metres with a high roof you can stand in. A two or three bedroom home, or the contents of a garage and a shed. Longer than a car space, so think about where it will park at both ends.
Luton box van with tail lift. Eighteen to twenty cubic metres and a tail lift that takes the sofa, the wardrobe and the washing machine without a second person lifting. A full family home. Because it is over two metres high, check for low barriers on retail park car parks.
The full daily van hire page has the table with load space and payload for every group, including crew vans, refrigerated vans and tippers.
What to bring
- Your photocard driving licence. A standard category B car licence covers every van we hire.
- A DVLA licence check code, generated at gov.uk within the last 21 days.
- Proof of your current address.
- A card for the refundable security deposit, which is released after the van comes back and is checked.
When to book
Midweek hires can often be arranged the same day. Saturdays at the end of the month are the busiest days of the year for house moves, so book those a week or two ahead. If you are moving on the last weekend of a month, or at the start of a university term in September, earlier is better.

Can I extend if the move runs over?
Usually yes. Call the depot on 01506 444455 and we will extend over the phone if the van is not booked out next.
Do you hire on Sundays?
Weekend hires are available; call to confirm collection and return times for the weekend you need.
Is a Luton harder to drive?
It is bigger, not harder. It has an automatic-style ease at low speed, mirrors that show you everything, and a tail lift that does the heavy lifting. If you have never driven one, we walk you round it at collection.
