The Ford Ranger Wildtrak is the pickup on the Euro Hire Drive fleet that gets hired for the widest mix of reasons: a site vehicle on Monday, a horsebox tow on Saturday, a Highland weekend the week after. This guide covers what it is, what it will tow, who hires it and how hiring one from Livingston works.

What the Ranger Wildtrak is

A double cab pickup with five proper seats, an open load bed behind them, selectable four-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. It carries about a tonne in the bed and tows up to 3,500 kg braked, which is the legal maximum for this class of vehicle. Inside it is closer to a large SUV than a work truck, with the driver aids and comfort you would expect from a modern family car.

What it tows

  • A single or double horsebox, with the weight to keep it settled on the A-roads of the Lothians and Fife.
  • A plant trailer with a mini digger or a compact tractor for a landscaping or groundworks job.
  • A boat on a trailer to the Forth, Loch Lomond or the west coast.
  • A caravan for a family holiday, or a car trailer for a recovery.

Since December 2021 a standard category B licence lets you tow a trailer up to 3,500 kg with a vehicle like the Ranger, so no extra test is needed. Tell us when you enquire that you plan to tow, so we allocate a vehicle with a towbar and check the combination with you.

Who hires it

  • Contractors who need a pickup on a site in Livingston, Edinburgh or Glasgow for a week or a month.
  • Equestrian and agricultural customers around West Lothian, Midlothian and Fife.
  • Families and groups heading north in winter, when four-wheel drive and ground clearance matter.
  • Businesses that want a pickup on long term hire, flexi hire or subscription without buying one.

How hiring one works

  1. Enquire on the 4×4 hire page or on 01506 444455 with your dates, where you are going and whether you will tow.
  2. Collect from 5A Grange Road, Houstoun Industrial Estate, Livingston, with your photocard licence, a DVLA check code from the last 21 days, two proofs of address dated within the last three months and a card for the refundable deposit.
  3. Return at the agreed time and fuel level. We check the vehicle over with you and release the deposit.

Ranger hire questions

Can I take it off road?

Check with us first. Estate tracks and farm access are usually fine when agreed in advance; the hire terms set out where you can drive.

Is a Toyota Hilux available as well?

Yes. The Hilux is the other double cab on the fleet, with similar payload and towing. We will suggest whichever suits your dates and the job.

Can a business hire one for six months?

Yes. Long term hire covers three months and beyond with maintenance included, and a business account adds monthly billing.

Need a van in Scotland?
