The long-wheelbase van for a two to three bedroom home
When a Transit Custom is not big enough and a Luton is more than you need, the long-wheelbase high-roof van is the answer: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Volkswagen Crafter and Ford Transit L3 and L4 vans with eleven to seventeen cubic metres behind the seats and a roof you can stand under. Euro Hire Drive runs all three from our depot at 5A Grange Road, Houstoun Industrial Estate, Livingston, in manual and automatic, by the day, the week and the month, with flexi, long term and contract hire for longer.
All of them are 3.5 tonne vans, so they drive on a standard category B car licence.

What fits in a long-wheelbase van
A two or three bedroom home in one load: beds and mattresses, a three-piece suite, wardrobes standing upright, white goods and forty to sixty boxes. For long items, the XLWB Sprinter takes a 4.5 metre length of timber, a dismantled shed or a run of kitchen units flat on the floor. Because you can stand up inside, loading is faster and safer than in a low-roof van. If the load includes a piano or an American fridge, or you would rather not lift, the Luton with tail lift is the better choice.
Driving a long-wheelbase van
- Length. Six to seven metres overall, so plan where it will park at both ends; two spaces end to end, or the street.
- Height. About 2.6 to 2.8 metres. Most multi-storey and supermarket car parks are out.
- Mirrors and cameras. Big door mirrors and, on most of our vans, a reversing camera; we set them up with you at handover.
- Loading. Heavy items forward and low, strapped to the rails; a well loaded LWB drives calmly.

Sprinter hire questions
Do I need a special licence?
No. Every van on this page is 3.5 tonnes, so a standard UK category B car licence covers it. Drivers must be 23 to 70 with at least two years’ driving experience.
Is an automatic available?
Yes, the XLWB Sprinter and the VW Transporter are on the fleet as automatics; see automatic van hire.
What is included?
VAT, insurance for the named driver, mileage and UK breakdown cover. Mileage is limited on one to three day hires; the excess can be reduced with a collision damage waiver.
Can you deliver?
Yes, across West Lothian for most hires and further afield for hires of a week or more.
Can I hire for a weekend?
Yes. Weekend hire runs from Friday afternoon to Monday morning, which suits a house move well.
