Tipper hire for trades and contractors

All are 3.5 tonne gross weight with a typical payload of 1,000 to 1,200 kg. Exact payload is on the vehicle’s plate and we confirm it at handover.
Loading a tipper properly
- Mind the payload. Wet soil and rubble are heavier than they look; a cubic metre of wet soil can be 1,500 kg. Fill by weight, not by volume.
- Sheet loose loads. Soil, chippings and waste must be covered so nothing blows off on the A71.
- Tip on level ground. Never on a slope or a soft verge, and keep clear of overhead lines.
- Strap long loads on a dropside. Timber and scaffold are ratchet-strapped to the body rails, with the ends marked.
Trade waste and the recycling centre
Household recycling centres in West Lothian, Edinburgh and Fife treat tippers and vans as commercial vehicles and usually require a trade permit or booking. Check the council’s rules before you go, and for genuinely commercial waste use a licensed transfer station. We will point you at the nearest one when you book.

Tipper and dropside hire questions
Do I need a special licence?
No. All of these are 3.5 tonne vehicles, so a standard UK category B car licence covers them. Bring your photocard and a DVLA check code.
Can I tow with a tipper?
Some are fitted with towbars. Tell us when you enquire if you need to tow a plant trailer and we will allocate a suitable vehicle.
Is there a deposit?
Yes. A refundable security deposit is held on a card at collection and released after the vehicle is returned and checked. We confirm the amount when you enquire.
Can I hire a tipper for a single day?
Yes. A day is enough for most garden clearances; weekly and monthly hire suit landscaping and building jobs.
Can you deliver to site?
Yes, across West Lothian for most hires and further afield for hires of a week or more.
